WHO I AM

I am BARBARA ZANON, a professional photographer, photojournalist, and wedding photographer with a deep interest in art and artificial intelligence. Born in Venice in 1979, I have been telling stories through photography since 2004, both nationally and internationally.

My work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, LIFE, The Guardian, Le Monde, Spiegel, El Pais, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Forbes. I have exhibited in cities like New York, Paris, London, and Venice, and I collaborate with Getty Images. I am a member of the Italian Order of Journalists and Women Photograph, promoting an ethical and representative approach to photography.

In recent years, I have explored the intersection between photography and artificial intelligence, creating AI-generated images and leading workshops and conferences on ethics, AI, and photojournalism.

Alongside my photojournalism work, I specialize in wedding photography and portrait photography. With over 20 years of experience, I have captured unforgettable moments for couples and families around the world. When I’m not behind the camera, I teach photography workshops, helping emerging photographers develop their style.

PROJECTS

In recent years, my work has increasingly focused on personal projects exploring memory, time and loss. I often begin with intimate, family-based stories, using them as a starting point to build visual narratives that open up to a broader, more universal dimension. I am interested in observing how memory shifts, distorts or breaks, and how images can become a way to hold onto, rework or question what remains.

Photography is my starting point, but not necessarily my final medium. I work both with images I create and with archival or family photographs, which I reinterpret and transform. I use different tools and visual languages, from digital collage to artificial intelligence, choosing each time the most appropriate medium to carry the work forward. In this process, photography moves beyond documentation and becomes a space of construction, where personal experience intersects with a wider reflection on memory, identity and loss.

MY PROJECTS

Editorial, Portrait, and Corporate Photography

I have been working in editorial and portrait photography for over 20 years. My experience spans a wide range of high-profile events, such as the G7 Summit, the Venice Film Festival, the Biennale d’Arte, and the Umbria Jazz Festival, where I have honed my skills and developed a deep understanding of capturing moments in dynamic and prestigious settings.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with major Italian and international newspapers and magazines, with my work being featured in renowned publications such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan, El Pais, Financial Times, Time, LIFE, El Mundo, Spiegel, Zeit, and leading Italian media groups such as Repubblica and RCS, as well as international outlets like CNN and CBS.

I have also received international awards for my photojournalistic reportage, particularly for my work on autism and refugee issues. These experiences have shaped my approach to both portraiture and editorial photography, where I strive to create images that are both powerful and authentic, reflecting the essence of the individuals and events I photograph.

In addition to editorial and portrait photography, I offer corporate photography services, helping businesses capture their brand’s identity and professionalism through creative and tailored images. Whether for company events, professional headshots, or branding campaigns, I work closely with clients to ensure the final result aligns with their vision.

If you are interested in editorial, portrait, or corporate photography, feel free to contact me for more information. I am based in Venice and Trieste, but I am available to travel for assignments both in Italy and abroad.

MY PORTFOLIO

Artificial Intelligence and Photography

My scientific background has naturally led me to take a deep interest in emerging technologies, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI). At the same time, my classical education has instilled in me the importance of continuous growth through knowledge and critical thinking. These two worlds—science and art—have come together in my exploration of AI and its implications for photography.

We are living in a historical moment where we are constantly surrounded by artificial images. It is essential to inform people about the dangers of manipulated images, which pose a significant challenge to our democracy. At the same time, it is important to recognize the immense potential of this rapidly evolving technology. Over the past year, my work with AI has only strengthened my belief that we need to have an open and informed dialogue about these issues, both with children and adults.

If you are looking for more information, have a project you’d like to propose, or simply wish to discuss the impact of AI on photography and visual arts, I am available to talk. This is a fast-moving technology, and it is crucial that we engage in conversations about it, making sure to understand its benefits and challenges. Only through knowledge can we make informed choices, rather than passively experiencing its effects.
